If all went as well as we could hope for you, the first thing we'd like to say is

Congratulations on the contribution!

Otherwise, don't worry! As we saw, contribution is a process with multiple parties involved, and it is entirely possible that you went through all the right steps, and still found a closed door, and the interactions may work better in another project later! The main thing now is to have learned the basics about the free software / open source world, how it works in practice, how to collaborate, and how to efficiently communicate and act. With that in mind, and some practice, you should be all set to contribute to anything -- or to welcome other contributors to your projects!

Starting is the most difficult part! The more you continue contributing, the more you will be able to network and take pride in that project, and you will grow skills.

You will also progressively discover additional "levels" of involvement, like maintainers, governance, etc. Those may come if you stay in a project and get more familiar with all aspects (especially community aspects).

Make sure to follow the community to learn about any event planned, such as video calls or IRC meetings -- these are great opportunities to forge relationships, and help you get unblocked.
